I Am a Child of God – April 1
It seems that a challenge for new believers is to truly realize that at their salvation they became a child of God. We hear sermons, sing songs, read scriptures that tell us this, but it could take years before we really soulfully receive this truth.
Being reminded I am a son of God has been meaningful to me over the years since my father’s death in 1980 when I was twelve years old. There have been seasons in life where this aspect of my relationship with God has been more needed for various reasons. These reasons varied from trials, crossroads, or loneliness. Regardless the reason, my heavenly Father knew and was faithful to be present and to provide what I needed.
The most vivid and impactful time he showed up recently was during a worship service August 2016 in Detroit at Storytellers Church. During the song “No Longer Slaves,” we connected in a deep way through hearing the body of Christ declare over and over, “I am a child of God.”
Are you in a season that feels fatherless? Maybe you literally are physically fatherless. What could be the impact to your heart if you began including acknowledgments to God in your prayers that he is your father and you are his son or daughter? May your prayers today further healing of your soul and deliver joy to your heart as you embrace your heavenly father.
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God…” 1 John 5:1 (NLT)
